- Source text

- Most created source materials (books, articles) have a natural
- linearity. For details of problems with linearity, see <jump>.
-
- Because hypertext organizes and presents material by idea units,
- source text is split into numerous fragments. Each unit should:
-
- - contain a single idea
- - seldom be multiple screens in length
- - contain a title and source identification
- - begin with a link to the previous fragment
- - include a link to the next fragment
-
- As readability of text on a screen differs from that of paper:
-
- - break text into smaller paragraphs to increase readability
- - add margin notes or subheads to show key ideas or flow
- - at end of a paragraph or as a footnote add hypertext
- jumps with a maximum of 2-3 links per screen <jump>
